The Aged by Fire “patina”
Inspiration comes from stories, and this special feature is based upon a couple of them. We always saw how the original working boots aged beautifully over time, we saw them on the feet of our grand parents and their friends, marked by the years of working in the fields. But we always paid attention to details and there was something more to it. You could find these boots on the feet of shepherds and farmers, in the countryside and in the mountains of Portugal were you can still find some local cobblers that can tell you some interesting stories…
Portugal can be a very hard place during winter, some say that the shepherds during winter time used to dry their boots by hanging them inside the fireplace so the drying process would be faster. Sometimes by accident the boots would get slightly burned or darkened by the smoke.
We also heard from some old cobblers that the boots would get burned when the farmers in desperation would act has firefighters in order to save their lands. Portugal has always been known for its massive forests fires and there are a lot of stories of heroic farmers, some of them even loosing their lives to save their lands.
This “patina” method is a tribute to these people and their stories.
